Ron Chester is a professional
skipper and marine engineer. After a career as a Perth builder and real estate developer, Ron realised his dream of a life
at sea around 35 years ago when he took to the remote waters of Western Australia, crayfish (lobster) and shark fishing. On
discovering the Kimberley Coast in 1982 he decided to share his explorations with all those who would sail
the uncharted waters with him and share the adventure. Ron's boyish sense of adventure, fun and curiosity are infectious.
Combined with his exceptional seamanship, local knowledge and fishing skills and his enjoyment of people from all walks of
life, he makes an Opal Shell Kimberley Cruise truly unique and memorable.
Ron & Barbara are both
passionate about 'their' Kimberley coast and love to share their knowledge and hidden treasures with
their guests. Well versed (and with an extensive library on board) in local and maritime history, flora, fauna and great rock
art enthusiasts, Ron and Barbara will ensure that your Opal Shell cruise is informative as well as fun and adventurous. Always
mindful of your safety, comfort and individual interests they strive to make every cruise the best holiday that you could
wish for. Opal Shell Cruises operate with in the natural boundaries of the Kimberley wilderness
without any impact on the environment - the original ecotour.
